ALC Expands Fault Detection and Diagnostics (FDD) Capabilities

05:07:00 22/07/2018

KENNESAW, GA., September 14, 2016 - Automated Logic Corporation (ALC), a leading provider of innovative building automation systems, has expanded their Fault Detection and Diagnostics (FDD) library in the WebCTRL® system to pinpoint over 100 proven faults in typical HVAC equipment, including VAV systems, air handlers, fan coils, unit ventilators, water-source heat pumps, and air-source heat pumps. Pre- programmed FDD algorithms are a standard feature of the WebCTRL building automation system and will alert building staff of potential equipment issues, help them identify the cause, and provide a visual display of preventive solutions. FDD can help reduce energy consumption, capital costs, and equipment wear and tear. ALC is a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

“The built-in FDD capabilities of the WebCTRL® system allow building operators to identify and respond to issues when they matter most - before they happen”, said Mead Rusert, president, Automated Logic. “By providing them with analytic tools that uncover potential problems with their HVAC equipment, they can take corrective action before system performance is compromised”.

FDD alarms will be automatically generated in the WebCTRL system to warn operators of problems which may be causing equipment to run inefficiently, wasting energy and/or degrading occupant comfort. An intuitive, easy-to-understand visual display then provides actionable, guided insights on remedial actions to the operator. In addition, alarm suppression logic is also included, which allows operators to focus on troubleshooting the equipment at the source versus the multiple units that it may serve.

FDD capabilities can benefit everyone in the building, including occupants, facility managers, operational staff, and owners. The building occupants benefit from increased comfort as equipment operates more efficiently and with a lower likelihood of mechanical failure. With greater responsiveness and analytical information, facility managers and operational staff benefit from lower maintenance costs, lower equipment failure, and higher energy efficiencies. Owners reap the rewards of lower cost of building ownership, lower energy costs, and longer equipment life. By creating a building environment with fewer equipment failures and a more consistent and comfortable user experience, owners are able to retain and acquire new tenants.
