BACnet is Building Automation and Control network Protocol.
BACnet is telecommunication protocol of control and automation system in the building.
BACnet is now widely accepted by equipment suppliers as an International standard in automation for building. BACnet is invented by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-conditioning Engineers called ASHRAE.
As an open standard protocol for building automation, it creates standard foundation that allows devices from different brands to exchange information with each other in the same building, namely: alarming, timetable, graph-based supervision and report. Therefore, BACnet seems to be more competitive than other protocol standards with:
- Low cost for system integration.
- High system integration.
- Operation is gathered in server.
- Wiping out the dependence on only one supplier.

Network structure schematic for ALC BMS system is designed simply and divided into 3 levels:
a. Management level.
This is the highest level in the ALC network structure, this level’s functions are control and monitor all systems and equipment in buildings. Includes Server of system, the database, the entire workstation, such as computers and wireless access devices such as PDA, Cell Phone ...
This is the level includes system routers and controllers that connected together.
- Communication on this layer is BACnet IP 100Base T-Ethernet with 10/100Mbps transmission speed ensures a very high speed for the system access.
- System’s server can run on many operating systems such as Windows, Linux, Solari.
- You can access the system via the building's LAN or via Internet line that unlimited operator stations, it does not need any special software but IE.
b. Automation level
System’s router’s duty to communicate between the DDC with the supervision and management server. All parameters of the system on the DDC will be updated to the system’s server, than the operator, the management can monitor and control every parameters of the system.
DDC (Direct Digital Controller) contain the control program, monitoring controls the system through the program and the parameters measured from lower level sensor.
- Communication between the DDC on this network layer is ARCnet 146 kbps, BACnet MS / TP76.8 kbps…. Communication speed can be selected to suit the technical requirements and the equipment’s used in the system.
- System’s router can connect to the devices of other manufacturers than BACnet via Third Party connection port. This makes ALC’s BMS system capable of “open” integrating. Many device manufacturers can connect to the system through a variety of different standards: Modbus, LONwork, N2 .... This will completely eliminate the system's reliance on suppliers and reduce the cost of system integration.
The DDC is designed like modul kind, it’s very convenient for expansion, replacement or upgrade in case of necessity.
C. Field level
This level includes field devices in the building: Chiller, AHU, FCU, VAV .. valve, sensors, actuators, ..., pumping systems, lighting .... ALC’s BMS system support strongly for those field devices connected. Many of the field device suppliers offer different field devices and they can connect to the system easily.

WebCTRL software will be installed on the system’s server, all Workstations will access the system through a Web browser.
ALC’s WebCTRL software unlimit operators, but the User will be provided username and password, depending on the operator's function that the manager/investor can limit access and use system. That's both control and supervision or only control or monitoring systems .... All information about the accessed user and system access times will be recorded and can be exported as reported for building management purpose.
In addition, in special situations, the changes in the User system is only able to implement after higher level user accept. This is not only to ensure the security of the system but also help the manager could be flexibility in special situations.
The system also has Auto Logout features when the User access without the use of a certain time or forgot to logout from the system, to ensure the security and safety of the system, avoiding the unfortunate incident.
A. The graphical interface control, monitoring system.
All control systems will be monitored through a Web browser. The graphics library’s built with vivid images. All images about the device, the operating status, incident status, temperature parameters ... all are shown on the General window. The manager can view the status of each system, he can observe the activity schedule, change in place when needed. Can gather information about the system through text and graphs reports. Also WebCTRL’s graphics library is an “open” library, graphic images of device completely can be added according to the will of the user.
The graphical interface for monitoring and control the temperature is shown by region and by color. Managers can easily observe the temperature according to conventional color range and easily recognize the warning temperature. All the states of cool, heat, warm ... is conventional on color range.
B. Setting schedules Interface and generate reports.
WebCTRL Software strongly support in the system scheduler, you can schedule to run the system every day, every week or summer/winter mode ... All the adjustments can easily manipulate by dragging the slider to change the operating time. Moreover, this schedule can be optimized for each specifically system with the most beneficial using time for the manager. Simple example, we can set schedule for pumping water at a time when prices are lowest or lighting system will operate in the required time and requested light intensity.
Besides that, WebCTRL also strongly support in collecting information and creating reports. All report information can be exported as text or spreadsheet, which helps the manager easily monitor all activities of the system.
In addition, the system can also display operation charts in graph. Against that, managers can observe the needs of the load. So we can optimize the system through the optimized operating modes, so we can minimize the energy consumption of the system.

C. Warning System.
The system strongly support for creating alerts, alert information such as: types of alerts, warning time will be compiled into a report. In addition, warning about the problem of the system or the warning about threshold set, runtime limitations ... will be sent to the management system via SMS, Email .. ... to ensure that managers have the timely information about the system.
